How Long have you worked at DEROSA?
I have just started working at DEROSA, and have very much enjoyed my first term – looking forward to many more.
Please Describe what you do at DEROSA
I currently teach guitar for both groups and one on one lessons, and cover ukulele classes.
How do you inspire your students to become musicians?
I found from personal experience that you always learn faster when you are playing things you are interested in! So initially I like to find out if they are learning just to be able to play some songs if the mood strikes them, or if they are interested in grades and theory behind playing. Once this is established, it is much easier to craft their musical path and work with them in learning, as opposed to a set pattern every one student follows.
Why do you think students should choose to come to DEROSA?
I think the fact that a lot of the teachers themselves play within the industry and have relevant experience is a huge boost. It’s great for students to have the opportunity to come and see their teachers play in a live situation, so they know we truly do understand what they are going through! Especially when it comes to confidence building and playing in front of an audience.
Any Interesting Facts About Yourself?
My first inter instrument of choice is actually my voice! I first started performing regularly as the lead singer of a 7 piece Motown band, with who I have played many venues, including the amazing 100 club, and have my own originals country band – Damn Near Drowned. I also have an ongoing duo act with another teacher at Derosa – Owen Stephen, called Midnight Drives.
