How Long have you worked at DEROSA?
I have been teaching for over 5 years now. I started teaching guitar privately as well as for Playsomething, which became DEROSA in 2013.
Please give a brief summary of your musical background and experience.
Since graduating from the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, I have worked as a session musician for various up and coming artists. I have played in theatre productions, as well as toured the UK supporting artists such as Lemar, Scouting For Girls & Groundation.
Please Describe what you do at DEROSA.
As the Head of Academy, I am responsible for the standard of education on offer. Not only do I teach our guitar & band classes, but I also organise performance opportunities for our students. As an organiser for Cazfest, I have given our hardest working musicians the chance to support artists such as Alexander O’Neal, Stooshe, Stereo Kicks and Artful Dodger. I am committed to raising the next generation of local professional musicians.
How do you inspire your students to become musicians?
I ensure my lessons are engaging for our students. My lesson plans are a compromise between what I think they should learn and what they want to learn. The result is steady progression on their instrument whilst enjoying it at the same time. I regularly monitor the progress of our students and give them honest feedback on what they’re good at and where they need to improve. The performance opportunities on offer at DEROSA certainly help inspire our students, as they experience first hand the rewards to being a gigging musician.
Why do you think students should choose to come to DEROSA?
Our faculty are not only qualified musicians, but also passionate educators. I believe we have the right balance to inspiring our pupils, whilst also ensuring that they are receiving the highest standard of education. Our teachers deliver a fresh approach to learning an instrument, where students progress on stage as well as in the classroom. I am yet to work within a team that is so committed to music education as the one at DEROSA.
