Derosa Music is an independent music store based in Bishops Stortford which was originally part of the Playsomething group which had sites in Ware and here in Bishops Stortford. During the early part of 2013, a decision was taken to separate the two branches, and the Bishops Stortford branch became Derosa Music, an independent store.
The shop is conveniently situated in Water Lane behind the United Reform Church and directly above Waitrose in Bishops Stortford where there is a pay and display public car park. Within the building, we operate a retail store which stocks a wide range of musical instruments including guitars, piano’s, drums, cymbals, amplifiers, music and accessories. You can take a Google business view tour here if you’d like to look around.
The company also has a thriving music school teaching people to play The Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums, Piano, Vocals and Ukulele and teaches both beginners and advanced pupils alike.
We offer both group tuition and one-to-one lessons with the emphasis on group tuition which is a more enjoyable way of learning. All of our tuition studios are fully equipped and we teach a maximum of 6 students in a group class.
De Rosa Music provides a wide range of services to both musicians and music students and we have a solution to suit any budget.
We teach Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums, Piano, Ukulele and Vocals. We also have little musician classes for children rising 5 – 7 years old.
For full details see our Music Lessons section.
If you are considering taking up an instrument or have a student at school looking to start playing Flute or Clarinet for instance, our rental scheme is perfect for you.
You pay a small monthly fee, typically between £10 – £20 for most acoustic guitars, portable digital pianos or brass & woodwind instruments. The full list of instruments we hire can be found on our instruments rental page along with terms and conditions. One of the great benefits of rental is that you are not tied in to a contract of any sort and just pay as you go monthly. If the student gives up at any point, you can just hand the instrument back with nothing more to pay.
We are fully aware that prices can vary on the internet and we operate an internet in-store pricing policy so that on all major purchases you can buy form us at exactly the same price as a retailer far far away! Unlike an internet retailer, you can pick up your item on the day. There are some items that we will order in but we can either arrange delivery (locally) or you can collect at a convenient time.
We will match any legitimate like-for-like price or deal obtained from any authorised UK dealer.

Half of your rental fee is available as a rebate against a new instrument purchase (rather than a cash refund).
This fund accrues over the first 12 months of your rental so you use this money as a discount any time up to the first year.
You can still rent after 12 months, but the rebate stops at 12 months which represents 3 school terms of tuition.
This period is usually long enough for students to decide if they want to continue with their instrument to higher grades.
All of our instruments are suitable for beginner students and in most cases are capable of taking a student up to the middle grades and beyond. In some cases an instrument will be suitable for grades beyond that, but as starter instruments, our rental stock will be better for students to use and learn on than a budget brand equivalent. We have had many conversations over the years with parents who regret buying an instrument online that seemed like a bargain but turned out to be unsuitable or worse, unplayable!
As with everything else, please ask for our advice on an appropriate instrument choice.
We can supply virtually any current piece of music in print including popular titles through to all the main examining body pieces. We can order music for all instruments and all grades. These inclue ABRSM, Rockschool and Trinity exam books.
Our service is often quicker than buying online yourself as we are constantly ordering music. If you order music regularly or want to give us a try, please call in and see us or call us on 01279 465155.
We don’t ask you to pay upfront for music and we’ll always change it for you if the piece is incorrect or unsuitable for any reason. You only pay on collection.
We offer teacher and school purchases of sheet music at a standard 10% discount at all times. We also do not charge for music ordering.
All De Rosa Music shop staff are musicians and are familiar with the equipment we sell.
We are here to answer any questions you have as well as make appropriate recommendations suitable for your particular circumstances. Between us, we have many decades of accumulated knowledge on the instruments we sell and on how to learn how to play and master the instrument of your choice.
Our repairs fall into three main categories:
For simple maintenance work like guitar re-strings we perform these on-site and can usually turn around a re-string same day. Our standard re-strings include cleaning your instrument and the price of a standard packet of 6 electric or acoustic guitar strings for a single payment of just £15.00. We will also tune your guitar afterwards as part of the service.
